The Victorian Italianate
The house in which Adan and Grams live is beautiful and majestic on its own. It is a Victorian Italianate mansion designed and built by reclusive millionaire in the turn of the twentieth century. Grams has told Adan the story of how Harrod, Adan's father, made the acquaintance of this rich hermit years before Adan was born. Adan's mother knew the man through her father, also a dim traveler. However, this is as much as Grams has ever told Adan, which strikes him as very odd. What he does know is that the house is a gateway to other dimensions. This makes it practical but also extremely dangerous, for not only can Adan and Mara embark on their trips from the house, beings from other dimensions can also attempt to get in. And some of these are not invited guests.
There are many devious individuals and creatures who (that) would like to destroy this lovely Italianate portal so that no one such as Adan and Mara could hinder their cruel and often deadly activities. This is why Grams is the keeper of the house. She controls the "headquarters" with Odin while Adan and Mara are away.
The house has an enormous library with mahogany woodwork and floor to ceiling shelves filled with books, journals, canisters, boxes, and souvenirs. This is the research center used by Grams to educate Adan and Mara and the nerve center for information.

The living room is where we often find Adan and Mara in two huge overstuffed chairs in front of the marble and wood fireplace. Adan keeps one of his guitars on a stand next to the fireplace and Mara keeps a lap desk leaning against her chair, since she is incessantly jotting down notes and studying languages.
